Clarification of the rumors around MINA and me

Since I expressed my mixed feeling into my previous blog post, I heard many rumors around MINA and me. I communicated with persons who contacted me privately, but it seems like more and more people are interested in this issue. Therefore, I’d like to let you know what’s going on.
Before we begin, I’d like to apologize if anyone was offended by my previous post. If MINA PMC asked for help in the early stage, perhaps we could have sorted things out before we reach here. I’d also like to appreciate many people who gave me insightful advices via various channels.
Following MINA PMC’s original plan to rotate the chair position annually, Peter Royal will become a new vice president of the MINA project. Once my resignation is accepted on 28th, I will also remove myself from MINA PMC. Yes, I leave the MINA project. This of course doesn’t mean that I will leave the ASF. I will be back when I feel I am ready.
Currently, I’m working on a new network application framework personally. It is a successor of Netty 2 and is licensed under LGPL for the same reason why Hibernate team chose LGPL. It has been written from scratch instead of forking any other project. It may be hosted under JBoss.org in the future to leverage its infrastructure such as JIRA, FishEye, Hudson and better site design.
I hope pretty many questions were covered in this post, but please feel free to contact me if you have more questions.

    Hi Trustin,

I understand your points. I also understand the others, but I must admit I feel very sad when reading those posts in the mailing list from one year now.

I know those kinds of riots, most of the time they are due to misunderstanding of each other, lack of calm discussions. I know that it becomes at some point just impossible to stay in front of it.

I don’t know what could be the future, either of Mina or your new framework project. I will stay tune one both to see where they will go.

My project is a real success, and 30% (at least) is due to Mina quality. So, as to all other contributors, I want to say a great thank you for this hard work and I hope I will see you soon, wherever it is…

    Take care,
    Frederic

I’d like to throw in my thanks as well, Trustin. MINA saved me a ton of time and is performing really well.

I’m sure you’ll continue to do great things.

Anyway we can get these other guys out instead? You’re a truly exceptional open source project manager, Trustin, and MINA is a very important project. I think great steps should be taken to prevent this from happening.

Hey guys, I’m so happy that your experience with MINA was great. I’d also like to thank you for active feed back both of you gave us!

I too am sorry that you have left the MINA project. It has helped me tremendously over the past year or so. I took a quick look at Netty 3, but I must have UDP support for my app, which Netty doesn’t have (yet?).

@Greg Rabil: First off, I’m happy that MINA helped you quite a lot and I’d like to appreciate your interest in Netty. UDP is not ready in Netty yet, but I believe it will be fully implemented in 3.2.
